The Fashion Design Council of India recently held the much awaited Delhi Couture Week. The 4-day fashion show showcased works of the most celebrated designers in India.
Perfume by Shantanu Nikhil
Shantanu-Nikhil's vintage collection titled 'Perfume' reminisced the aristocratic grandeur of the 15th century Elizabethan era. The ramp complemented the theme with lavishly designed furniture and other paraphernalia. The ensembles characterised with delicate textures and fluid fabrics, exuded opulence of the collection. Shades of royal blue, golden merged with bole brown and tawny orange added to extravagance of the dresses. Sonakshi Sinha, the evening's showstopper donned a white lehnga, with an embroidered ivory-white jacket.
Sama by Meera & Muzaffar Ali
Sama by Meera and Muzaffar Ali was inspired by the magnificence of ancient Awadh in the backdrop of regality, apt with its revelries, captivating qawwali music and extravagant outfits. The collection displayed grandeur in its colour palette with gold and maroon being the most dominant hues.
Fabrics consisted of crepe de sheen and chiffon in flowing silhouettes.
Kamasutra by Suneet Varma
Suneet Varma's collection went beyond the limitations of creative imagination with his exquisite experimentations. Models walked down the ramp with veiled dupattas and dropped eyelids giving the impression of newly brides adorned with shyness and innocent smiles. The red and black concoction added an elegance and charm to the bridal outfits.
Adaa by Ashima & Leena
Ashima & Leena's collection was exquisite with layered silhouettes, peshwas over ghagras, drapes over churidars, khada-dupattas wrapped over ensembles. Their show ended with the lovely Sharmila Tagore walking the ramp in a stunning olive, red and beige red lengha. Inspired by the household woman, these garments were a sensual delight, with silks combined with gold brocades. Deep reds, pinks, peachy rose, mauves and beige gave their sartorial anthology a vintage feel.
Maya by Anju Modi
Anju Modi's collection named 'Maya' was inspired by the grandeur of the Mughal era. The show was opened by Shraddha Kapoor, dressed in a white and gold gown. Her collection consisted of angarkhas, saris, velvet jackets, lehngas in shades of white, ivory and pearl, all with a touch of golden in them. Multiple shades of blue infused with maroons and reds were also a part of her palette.
Timeless by Manav Gangwani
Manav Gangwani's collection aimed to bring out the dominant side of woman by representing feminity in its unconventional form – fiery colours symbolising strength and metallic hues emanating aggression and power. The outfits consisted of bright fiery yellows, oranges and shades of ivory. Fabrics in this 'Timeless' collection comprised of georgettes, chiffons and satin among others. The ensembles' signature aspects were elaborate collars and diamond shaped necklines.
